UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida Predictions- Kamikaze Overdrive MMA

Scott Johnson

When Robbie Lawler and Johnny Hendricks squared off for the vacant UFC Welterweight title, that was the end of an era dominated by Georges St-Pierre at the 170 pound weight class. When the main event of UFC 175 gets underway that will signify the end of another equally as impressive era. Anderson Silva has reined over the Middleweight division since 2006, but for the first time since Rich Franklin defended his title against David Loiseau at UFC 58- Anderson’s name will not included in a Middleweight title fight.

Chris Weidman will put his title on the line for the second time, when he meets former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Weidman’s wins over the former champion have been described by many as flukes or a product of an aging former champion. A win over Machida will go a long way to legitimize the young champion’s rein. For Machida, he is 1 for 2 in UFC title fights and could very well be facing his final shot at a championship. Weidman has been almost flawless since arriving in the Octagon, but he now faces a man who once carried a similar aura and has gained a wealth of experience that the champion has yet to acquire.

Can Chris Weidman slay the dragon, or will the Machida era be reborn at 185?

In the co-main event, UFC Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey puts her title on the line against formidable Canadian challenger Alexis Davis. Rousey has dominantly dispatched all of her opponents since the start of her MMA career, but Davis presents a new challenge. Alexis is arguably the most accomplished BBJ trained opponent that the Rowdy one has faced to date. While Ronda is certain of her submission skills, Davis feels she is more then capable of hanging with the champ on the mat. Can Davis put a dent in Ronda’s run or will she be just another notch on the Rousey’s title belt?

Also on the main card, Stefan Struve completes his journey back to the Octagon when he meets Matt Mitrione. Struve had been sidelined  with a considerable heart ailment that was threatening his career, but has since been cleared to return to action. TUF finalist Uriah Hall looks for his second consecutive win when he battle dangerous Mauy Thai striker Thiago Santos, and Marcus Brimage makes his Bantamweight debut against Russell Doane.
