UFC 172: Jones vs Teixeira Predictions- Kamikaze Overdrive MMA
Despite Dana White’s claims regarding Ronda Rousey, it is clear that Jon Jones is now the UFC’s marquee champion with the absence of Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva. Jones has dominated the competition and defeated a who’s who of former champions. He is coming off easily the most grueling battle of his career when he fought 5 hard rounds against Alexander Gustafsson, but at UFC 172 he will be once against put to the test.
Opposing Jones, will be long time Light Heavyweight standout Glover Teixeira. Teixeira has torn through the opposition since signing on with the UFC and quickly rose to prominence after languishing on the independent circuit waiting for this opportunity. The Brazilian represents the most well rounded and toughest challenge of Jones’s career, which is saying a lot considering what ‘Bones’ just went through. Will Jones add another opponent to his list of victims or will his name be added to the growing number of great champions that have fallen in recent memory?
In the co-main event a pair of future 205 pound title hopefuls will attempt to stake their claim to a future shot when Phil Davis and Anthony Johnson meet. Johnson, a former Welterweight, has looked dominant since moving up to a more accommodating weight class. His recent knockouts of Mike Kyle and DJ Linderman, along with a decision over Andrei Arlovski paved his way back to the UFC. On the other hand, Davis has been quite successful inside the Octagon, but has yet to garner the attention of the ‘powers that be’ when it comes to a title shot. The winner of this contest might not get an immediate title shot, but they will take a massive step towards contention and the complete opposite with a defeat.
Also on the main card, former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold meets the ‘the Barbarian’ Tim Boetsch in Middleweight battle. Rockhold put the division on notice with his quick stoppage of Cost Philippou, while Boetsch is coming off a controversial win over CB Dollaway . In the Lightweight division, Jim Miller battles late injury replacement Yancy Medeiros who climbs up from the prelims to replace Bobby Green on just a weeks notice. Opening the show will be a pairing of Featherweight prospects as Max Holloway and Andre Fili collide.
