UFC 162: Silva vs Weidman Predictions- Kamikaze Overdrive MMA

The consensus King of MMA will once again try to defend his throne, as Anderson Silva heads into UFC 162 with his UFC Middleweight title on the line against #1 contender the arguably the future of the division, Chris Weidman. On July 6th, 2013 we will answer the question that has been on the minds of the entire MMA community since this fight was signed- is the future here?

Weidman has torn through the UFC since his short notice debut with wins over notable veteran fighters Alessio Sakara, Tom Lawlor, Demian Maia, and most recently Mark Munoz. With a dangerous combination of wrestling and submission skills, Weidman is a serious threat to finish a fight any time it hits the mat. Silva has tangled with many wrestling based adversaries during his near 7 year title run. While Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen both presented difficult challenges for the Champion, Weidman could be his most difficult yet.

In the co-main event former UFC Lightweight Champion and more recently Featherweight title challenger, Frankie Edgar looks for his first win since 2011 when he battles Charles Oliveira. Edgar dropped a spirited 5 round battle with Jose Aldo running his career worst losing streak to 3 straight fights. In his last fight, Oliveira dropped his first bout since cutting to 145 pounds to fellow 162 main carder Cub Swanson. Prior to the knockout defeat, the Brazilian had picked up back to back submission wins at Featherweight. Many are tagging this fight as a mismatch and an attempt to get the former Champion back in the win column, but do Bronx is far from an easy win and will be looking to take home the biggest win of his career on Saturday Night.

Rounding out the main card will be a trio of entertaining fights. In the Middleweight division, two former Strikeforce fighters collide as Roger Gracie battles Tim Kennedy. Graice, a world renown BJJ Black Belt, will be looking to showcased his ground talents and Kennedy also quite capable on the mat might be willing to oblige him. Also at 185 pound, two former top contenders will try to return to the win column as Tim Boetsch battles the returning Mark Munoz. Both men were on the cusp of a title shot, but suffered significant defeats last time out that set their title aspirations back. To open the card, Denis Siver meets Cub Swanson in a fight with arguably more divisional significance then the Edgar/Oliveira contest. Both Swanson and Siver have put together decent winning streaks and another victory could put them next in line for a shot at UFC gold.
