UFC 158: St-Pierre vs Diaz Predictions- Kamikaze Overdrive MMA

March 16, 2013 will mark a major day for the UFC’s Welterweight division. With the Welterweight title on the line in the main event, two significant main card 170 pound bouts with title shot implications surrounding both, and a total of 12 Welterweights fighting on the main card the division is about to get a face lift.

In the main event Georges St-Pierre defends his title against Stockton bad boy and former Strikeforce title holder Nick Diaz. Diaz is returning after some time spent on the shelf due to a suspension and has been awarded this shot as the result of a combination of his fighting ability and the want of the champion to finally step inside the cage with him. There is no secret that the main event combatants aren’t friends and while a mutual respect will most likely be the end result of the five round title fight, neither man has held back in their pre-fight pontification. Is Nick Diaz just another name about to be added to the list of vanquished foes for the French-Canadian champion or is Diaz on track to finally upend the 10 fight six year undefeated run of St-Pierre?

In the co-main event of the evening former Interim-Champion Carlos Condit meets #1 ranked Welterweight Johny Hendricks. After a reshuffling of the deck due to an injury suffer by Condit’s original opponent Rory McDonald, Hendricks jumped up to fight the Natural Born Killer in the second last fight of the night. While this may seem like an improvement, Hendrick’s recent success and status in the division had him believing he would be headlining this event across from the Champion. Instead, Johny will try to maintain his position as the next potential challenger against the toughest opponent he has faced in his young MMA career. For Condit, his status in the division was temporarily downgraded after a one-sided beat down against St-Pierre but a win here puts him right back in the mix for a title shot.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Rounding out the main card Jake Ellenberger continues his quest for a title shot against former Middleweight challenger and past Strikeforce Welterweight champion Nate Marquardt. The winner of this fight will firmly establish themselves as a top 5 challenger in the division with a potential title eliminator on the horizon. Also on the main card a pair of scrappy Middleweights collide with aspirations of moving up ranks when Nick Ring meets Chris Camozzi. Starting the main card will be a fracas involving a pair of Ultimate Fighter finalists as TUF 16 runner-up Mike Ricci battles TUF Smashes silver medalist Colin Fletcher.
The 7-fight preliminary card is headlined by Patrick Cote fighting at home against Strikeforce crossover Bobby Voelker. Daron Cruickshank and John Makdessi meet up in a bout with striking fireworks written all over it and Featherweights Darren Elkins and Antonio Carvalho battle for a spot in the upper echelon of 145 pound contenders. The entire preliminary roster can be view below.
