KOPT II- A Champion Crowned
The second edition of the Kamikaze Overdrive Prediction Tournament has come to and end and we here at Kamikazeoverdrive.net would like to extend our congratulations to the tournament champion Nick Thomas aka ‘Card’. Battling through 5 rounds of predictions and finishing with a record of 126-58-0 and an overall winning percentage of 68%, Nick vanquished 5 opponents including Tournament Finalist ‘Maestro V’ by a score of 80-77 to win the Championship. ‘Maestro V’ should also be commended for an excellent prediction season as well. Card’s round by round results are posted below, along with the Final Tournament Bracket, and Nick took the time to answer a few questions.
1st Round: Card 43 UFCGrandma 41
2nd Round: Card 69 Affluent-Genius 50
3rd Round: Card 54 Super Sean 420 49
4th Round: Card 61 BTLJUZ 43
KO: How did you get into MMA?
NT: I got into MMA in 2005 – aka I’m a TUF 1 noob. Loved that first season on Spike and I got hooked. I don’t watch any other sports. I also wrote for Bloodyelbow.com for a couple of years.
KO: When breaking down and predicting fights, what do you look for?
NT: For my predictions – I always favor the wrestler. Other things I look out for are the odds, fightmetric stats, fightmatrix ranking, ring rust, short notice, age difference, hometown advantage, props, fight camp, southpaw, pace, time zone, altitude, weight cut, full-time fighter, height, weigh-ins, gas tank, years of fighting, finishing %, twitter/instagram, interviews and more. The more research I do, the more the fun the fights are to watch.
KO: Do you have a favourite fighter or fighter you really enjoy watching?
NT: My favorite fighter is any Canadian fighter… David “The Crow” Loiseau was great in his prime.
KO: What about a favourite fight or moment?
NT: My favorite fight changes all the time… most recent one is Gilbert Melendez vs. Diego Sanchez. From the past, it would be Randy Couture vs. Tim Sylvia, I remember standing up for the whole fight after Randy rocked Sylvia and then counting down the last 15 seconds of round five.
KO: Is there a dream fight that you would like to see?
NT: Dream fight was Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones before Silva lost; and Mayweather vs. Pacquiao before Pacquiao lost. Fedor vs. any popular UFC heavy would have been great as well.
KO: Now that the tournament is over, is there anywhere that potential fans of your predictions and insight can follow you?
NT: You can find me on the UG, Sherdog, Tapology, UFC fantasy and everywhere else as “Card”.
KO: Any final worlds before you go?
NT: This tournament was a blast and I look forward to defending my title next time. Thanks Scott for organizing it.
If you think you have what it takes to take the title away from ‘Card’ and go the distance, make sure you keep an eye out for the start of the KOPT III in the future. Thank you to all competitors who took part and hopefully we will see you next time.
